I’ve been feeling like total garbage for the past couple days. I wasn’t going to say anything, but in case I am not my usual witty (nerdy) self, now you know why. I’m going to pretend it isn’t the flu, because that would suck. But my stomach hasn’t really been jonesing for the usual gigantic plates of roughage like normal.
That is to say that I’ve been eating what my sister would call “baby food”. Translation: Smoothies have been making thrice daily appearances.
Not that eating a chocolate peanut butter smoothie for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is a problem. In fact, the way I see it, if it weren’t for the sleepless nights, and the hot/cold flashes, I’d say this stomach bug can hang out for as long as it wants.
Since I have nothing to offer in the world of exciting foods, I’m going to write about something I’ve wanted to write about for a while now: Blogger food trends.
You know what I mean (well, you do if you read more than my blog, which some of you – Hi Mom! Hi Aunt Vickie! – do not). Those foods that you see eh. vree. where. And let’s pick five of them. Because five is a prime number and won’t require too much thought on my part.
1. Flavored Nut Butter
You seriously can’t read more than 3 blogs without encountering some kind of sugary peanut flavored frosting masquerading as peanut butter. Clearly, you can see what I think of this trend.
Just to be clear, I LOVE nut butters. But the flavored ones? I have tried them. Many times. And every time, I regret the decision to try them.
Side note: I remember going home for the holidays many years ago (4? 5?) and my mom had 2 jars of PB Loco in the cabinet. She told me that the neighbor lady was selling them (kid of like Tupperware or Girl Scout Cookies?) I tried it then and I hated it. Also, those same jars were there the following holiday season. I’m fairly certain they ended up in the trash.
2. Oatmeal
Now, don’t get me wrong. I eat oatmeal. In fact, about 5 years go, I, like you (yes, I’m talking to you) ate it for breakfast daily. But, I didn’t blog about it. (Of course, I didn’t have a blog, but that’s beside the point.)
I didn’t revere it.
I didn’t compose odes of love and adoration and speak its name in hushed tones and sing to the mountaintops.
I just ate it and went on with my day.
3. Coconut butter/oil/meat/milk
We all know how I feel about this one.
But, I’m coming around to coconut butter. The oil – tried it. Hated it.
Now that I know I like coconut butter, I’d like to formally request that Artisana send me those samples of Cacao Bliss that I didn’t appreciate last time. Because damn *smacks self on head*.
4. Pancakes
I never would have believed the myriad ways you can make pancakes until I started reading food blogs. And to think, I used to only get buttermilk!
I think props go to our resident food blogger extraordinaire (and about to give birth any minute now) Heather, for this trend. This girl has a mind for pancakes.
FYI – the above were Christmas cakes I made last year, after seeing them onHeather’s blog.
5. Peanut butter hot chocolate
Thanks for “letting” me steal your photo without permission, Alisa. :D
Turns out 5 was too hard. I couldn’t come up with another one. BUT, if this isn’t the ext food blogger trend, I don’t know my ass from my elbow. (As they say.)
Alisa posted a recipe for this mug of deliciousness this morning. Five minutes after reading it, I had some in my hot little hands. And I was walking on sunshine, kids.
Make this. Now.
Go. (But comment first, okay?)
So, readers of food blogs, what trends did I miss?
What foods do you eat regularly that aren’t trends, but should be?
And I didn’t even plan for everything in this post to be vegan. Damn, but she’s good.
